Write Your Resume To Get Noticed

Your Resume Needs To Get Noticed.

Having a resume in the bartending business is a very good idea.

Normally people don’t turn in resumes, instead they simply fill out
an application.
Some places run out of applications, then when you go in to get
an application you are given a piece of paper, or worse a cocktail
napkin, and told to write down your contact information.

That might work if you know someone working there and they
tell the boss about you. This is rarely the case.

Having a resume, ready to turn in, will set you apart from the
usual bartenders that apply.
The resume needs to stand out by using the right words.

You need to write your cover letter (yes, a cover letter) and resume
in a way that gets you noticed without being boring, wacky or overly

You should write as if you are having a casual but professional
conversation with someone.

This is where you need to develop a new skill called copywriting.

“Copywriting is writing copy for the purpose of advertising or marketing.

The copy is meant to persuade someone to buy a product,
or influence their beliefs.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copywriting)

Although this post isn’t a tutorial on how to write, you should use
this information for all of your writing.

I’m using this book right now to help write a better resume.

The key formula to use from this book is the acronym:

Get the readers Attention.

Make them gain Interest in the topic.

Build a Desire for the subject.

Tell them how to take Action.

This is the successful formula thet has been used for
years in marketing and advertising.

You need to Sell Yourself.

A.I.D.A. works for cover letters and it can also be used in the resume.
Attention can be the “objective” part of the resume.

Also many of the online applications, that many companies
are using, want a resume uploaded.

Hopefully by now you understand how important a resume is
for a bartender..

Not only will a well written resume make a good impression, but
it will also help you reinforce what you already know about yourself.

The traits you need to highlight:

Try to keep your resume short enough to scan, but long enough
to cover everything. One page is ideal.

Remember that in this industry having a resume is setting you
apart and that is what can get you the interview.

You can start with this template, if you don’t already have one.
